Do not be misled by the “standard”: A safe burglary protection is only provided by a glazing of at least type SILATEC P6B2.
Read here why.
The offerings for “RC2 or RC3 glass” are often insufficient. Because the standard permits that you can install a P4A or P5A glass for a burglarproof RC2 or RC3 window. However, these are NOT burglarproof and are broken after a few seconds! The glass does not even get tested! Really burglarproof is only glass of type SILATEC P6B2 for RC2 windows, and at least type SILATEC P6B2 or SILATEC private protection for RC3 windows.
Stops unpracticed amateur culprits for about three minutes
Only burglarproof glass:
Type SILATEC P6B2
Based on the standard, the glass will NOT be tested! Only P4A glass is specified.
However, P4A is broken in about ten seconds - not burglarproof!
Stops unpracticed amateur culprits for about three minutes
Only approved + burglarproof glass:
Type SILATEC RC2 panic glass2
Based on the standard, the glass WILL be tested.
Resists even the practice burglar for about five minutes
Only burglarproof glass:
at least type SILATEC P6B2
Based on the standard, the glass will NOT be tested: only P5A glass is specified.
However, P5A is broken in about 15 seconds2 - not burglarproof!
Resists even the practice burglar for about five minutes
Only approved and burglarproof glass:
Type SILATEC RC3 panic glass2
Based on the standard, the glass WILL be tested.
Strictly speaking, “RC2” glass” does not exist.
The so-called “RC2 glass” for burglary resisting RC2 windows that the standard specifies is only equivalent to P4A - and this glass is clearly not burglarproof! Because the standard tests the window but not the glass! And what good is the burglarproof window frame if the glass is broken immediately? Therefore: Do not follow blindly what the standard selects; it is better if you trust a burglarproof glass type SILATEC EH1 . This protects even against the impact of a sledgehammer.
However, the glass is also tested for burglarproof RC2 panic doors. Therefore, P4A is not permissible here, but only the glass of type SILATEC RC2 panic glass2 - as burglarproof as the RC2 panic door .
Standard: does not test the glass, therefore selects arbitrarily P4A glass, which is not burglarproof!
Recommendation: Glass of type SILATEC P6B2 glass - as burglarproof as the RC2 window!
Standard: Also tests the glass and does not permit P4A glass - because it is not burglarproof!
Mandated: Type SILATEC RC2 panic glass2 – as bulletproof as the RC2 panic door!

RC2 windows delay unpracticed amateur thieves with small tools for approx. three minutes. And the standard tests this resistance time in detail. But: The glass will not be tested at all! For whatever reason. The standard only specifies P4A glass and that is not burglarproof: It can be broken in about 10 seconds (!).
The ideal “RC2 glazing” should be at least as safe as the RC2 window. SILATEC P6B2 also lasts the three minutes, which the window resists - and that easily. Even against a sledgehammer.

In this case it is even prohibited to use P4A or P5A glass. The only correct and permissible solution is glass, type SILATEC RC2 panic glass2. Because this is where the glass is also tested and it must - logically - be as safe as the door.
Because the panic doors are especially endangered. Burglars know: Even if the lock is blocked, it must be possible to open the door from the inside if a panic occurs. The burglar breaks a hole in the glass from the outside, actuates the latch on the inside and now the panic door is open. SILATEC RC22 panic glass prevents this for the longest time.

And the same applies here as for the “RC2 glazing” (see above). The window for burglary resisting RC3 windows will be tested, however, the glass will not be tested! P5A glass is mentioned arbitrarily in the standard, however, this does not even withstand a thrown rock.
Only glass of the type SILATEC P6B provides enough resistance, even against a sledgehammer, and the following is obvious: safe window, safe glass. The glass will be tested in the same manner as the window for burglarproof RC3 panic doors. P3A to P5A glass is therefore also not permitted! The correct solution is glass, type SILATEC RC32 panic glass.

If you want to know more details - we are pleased to provide them:
RC3 windows are burglary resisting. They delay thieves for about five minutes, even practiced culprits and that must also be proven by the RC3 window in a test. In contrast, the glass will not be tested - for whatever reason. Only P3A to P5A glass is mentioned - however, this is already broken after a few seconds. Traditional P6B glass holds only for 30 seconds3, however, SILATEC P6B2 in contrast for about five minutes3.

Only the glass, type SILATEC RC32 panic glass,
is permissible for RC3 panic doors.
It provides resistance for about five minutes and therefore it is as burglarproof as the RC3 panic door. SILATEC RC3 panic glass2 for RC3 panic doors: as burglarproof as the door.

SILATEC “RC2 glass” for burglary resisting windows as well as “RC3 glass” for burglar proof windows - this is equivalent to SILATEC P6B - available starting with a glass thickness of about 16 mm. Our panic glass for panic doors is also available starting at about 16 mm. See table:
| Resistance class | Glass thickness for windows starting with | Glass thickness for panic doors starting with | |
|---|---|---|---|
| RC2 glass | monolithic | 16 mm | 16 mm |
| RC2 glass | Double insulating glass | 26 mm | 32 mm |
| RC3 glass | riple insulating glass | 38 mm | 44 mm |
| RC3 glass | monolithic | 16 mm | 28 mm |
| RC3 glass | Double insulating glass | 26 mm | 38 mm |
| RC3 glass | riple insulating glass | 38 mm | 56 mm |
Only the glass SILATEC P6B2 is burglarproof for RC2 windows. What does the standard say? Caution, trap! The standard only specifies P4A glass, however, this only withstands for approx. 10 seconds(!). (based on the standard, the glass does not even get tested!)
Only the glass, type SILATEC RC2 panic glass2, is permissible for RC2 panic doors. (the glass WILL BE tested in accordance with the standard). It provides resistance for about three minutes - as burglarproof as the panic door.
RC2 means “Resistance Class 2”, which means burglary resisting windows or doors. The lowest resistance class is designated RC1 and it does in reality not deliver any burglary protection. The highest resistance class is designated RC6 and it offers a protection for approx. 20 minutes.
An RC2 window is a “burglary resisting window of the resistance class 2” (RC = resistance class). A total of six resistance classes exist: RC1 windows offer the least burglary protection and RC6 windows offer the highest protection, up to approx. 20 minutes. For example, RC2 windows protect for about three minutes against unpracticed amateur culprits.
RC3 is better than RC2 because RC3 windows offer about five minutes of burglary protection, even against practiced culprits. RC2 windows in contrast offer only three minutes - and only against unpracticed amateur culprits with small tools.
RC3 means: burglary resisting windows or doors, tested in the protection class 3 (RC = resistance class). A total of six classifications exist: Starting with RC1 up to RC6, which has the highest burglary protection.
It must be at least P4A glass for RC2 windows, however, this can already be broken with a large hammer in about 10 seconds. P6B glass offers more burglary protection with about 30 seconds3, the highest protection is offered with P6B2 glass by SILATEC with about five minutes3 (!).
Neither P4A nor traditional P6B are approved for RC2 panic doors or RC2 escape doors. The only permissible and burglarproof solution is glass, type SILATEC RC22 panic glass.
The burglarproof solution is glass, type SILATEC P6B: It provides resistance as long as the window.
The permissible and burglarproof solution is glass, type SILATEC RC32 panic glass: safe panic door, safe panic glass.
